Stand-up

You probably haven’t heard of many Muslim, South-Asian stand-up comedians in DC.  That’s because Shahryar is most likely the only one.  He has been doing stand-up for over 10 years and his unique identity as a South-Asian, Muslim man coupled with his background as a DC-MD-VA native and a long-time Federal employee provide him with more than a lifetime worth of comic material.

He has traveled through the country and internationally to perform at comedy clubs, corporate events, non-profit events and private events and has acquired a long list of accolades along the way:

– Invited to perform at the world renown Johnny Carson Great American Comedy Festival 2013
– Semi-finalist at the Funniest Fed 2012 Competition
– Multiple features in the Washington Post
– Featured in Voice of America
– Guest on the Art Campbell Show

Besides performing as a comedian, he enjoys emceeing various events such as fundraisers, weddings and corporate parties.

You can see some clips on his YouTube page or you can contact him for longer clips on vimeo.
