Changing the Air Filter in my 2008 IS 350

I finally got around to changing the air filter in my car.  From what I’ve read, I should have done it when my car mileage was at 15k miles, but I ended up doing it today when my car was at 25422 miles.

It’s also been about a year and a half, I had bought the car new in January 2009.

I thought I would need tools but I didn’t.  I followed the instructions that were in the How to replace engine air filter in 2006 is350? thread on my.is.  This post and the two posts below it pretty much breakdown what to do:

Open the hood. The air box is right behind the grille on the passenger side of the engine compartment.

To open it, free the cable from the side of the box and pop the four (4) latches.

Lift lid carefully, remove dirty filter and drop the new one in. Place lid back on, insuring a tight fit. Re-latch and put that cable back in its clip.

Close the hood, go home and have a beer. Then enjoy better gas mileage (not necessarily in that order…)

cdeslandes is correct. but to see the air intake box, you must remove the engine covers….part of front and all of passenger side covers. they’re held down by re-usable plastic rivets. after that follow cdeslandes’ instructions. gl…

Correct. And to remove those rivets, press down on the little button in the middle of each rivet.

This is a pic w/ the left engine cover removed and half the rivets on the front engine cover missing

The model number of the stock/factory engine air filter that I took out.

The new blitz engine air filter I’m using.

And finally, the engine air filter in place before I put the engine cover back on.

I still haven’t done the cabin air filter yet at the time of this posting.

Raspberry Brothers watch Karate Kid, Cherry Blossom Festival Anime Marathon, 48 Hour Film Project

Read the March 28, 2010 Washington Post Magazine kind of late and missed out on two good events in early April: 1) the Raspberry Brothers coming to watch the Karate Kid at Arlington Cinema ‘N’ Drafthouse in Arlington Virginia and 2) The National Cherry Blossom Festival Anime Marathon at Freer Gallery.

And in visiting the Washington Post’s website today to find these links for this blog post, saw that I’ll be missing the 48 Hour Film Project tonight at the American Film Institute Silver Theatre and Cultural Center in Silver Spring, MD
